I believe in renting everything. I don’t want to put big part of my net worth into one physical item like an apartment which might lose value because I don’t understand them.
That makes my life easy because I have very predictable expenses (assuming the world doesn’t change dramatically) and then I can estimate how much income I need to maintain certain lifestyle.
My goal is to never work for money which also means that I don’t stop working when I reach certain net worth. I work because it creates meaning to my life.
A lot of net worth calculators are built around retirement. I wanted to build calculator that can be used through out life.
I still think the point when passive income is higher than expenses is important because it gives true freedom to work only on things that matter.
I wanted to keep this calculator simple with the basic features that I have found useful and not include anything extra which could make the tool complicated to use.
Basically I have pretty good idea how much income I’m going to get and how much are my expenses. I still want to prepare for worst and the best scenario and also create scenarios for decisions like leaving a job and joinging another company.
